The President of the United States, Joe Biden, made a significant statement on Friday. He highlighted that the vast majority of Palestinians are not affiliated with Hamas. He further emphasized that these individuals bear the brunt of the terrorism inflicted by the Islamist group, Hamas.
“I am not going to sugarcoat my words. The majority of Palestinians do not support Hamas nor does Hamas represent the Palestinian people. In fact, they are victims of the terrorism that Hamas perpetuates. We must confront this harsh reality,” he stated in a post on the social network X.
The United States has, on numerous occasions, backed a pact calling for a cessation of hostilities in the Gaza Strip. This stance comes in the context of the offensive initiated by Israel in the Gaza enclave following attacks by the Islamic Resistance Movement, popularly known as Hamas, on October 7.
Despite this, Washington, this week, used its veto power for the third time to block a United Nations Security Council resolution. This resolution sought an immediate ceasefire, but the US stated that such a resolution would hinder efforts to broker a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas.
In response to the aforementioned attacks by Hamas, Israel launched an offensive against the Gaza Strip, which resulted in nearly 1,200 fatalities and 240 kidnappings. Post these events, Gazan authorities have reported the death of more than 29,400 civilians. Additionally, nearly 400 Palestinians have been killed due to actions of Israeli security forces and settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
