Britain Contemplates Suspension of Israel’s Arms Export Licenses

The diplomatic pressure being exerted on Britain has seen an uptick in recent times.

The government of Britain is currently weighing the possibility of halting Israel’s arms export licenses, a decision that could be implemented if the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, proceeds with a ground attack on Rafah. This information was brought to light by The Guardian, a reputable British newspaper.

Pressure from the diplomatic community against Britain is on the rise, primarily due to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza. Government sources, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed to The Guardian that Britain has the capacity to make a swift decision should Israel be found guilty of violating international humanitarian law.

“We do not turn a blind eye to the catastrophic humanitarian implications that a full-scale ground attack could entail. We persistently urge Israel to ensure its operations are restricted to military targets only, and it should take all necessary precautions to prevent civilian casualties and the destruction of homes,” Foreign Minister David Cameron stated in a letter addressed to the Foreign Affairs Committee.

The value of Britain’s arms exports in the year 2022 stood at approximately 49 million euros.
