Chandrababu Naidu Granted Interim Bail for Four Weeks on Medical Grounds

In a recent development, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has granted Telugu Desam Party leader N Chandrababu Naidu interim bail for a period of four weeks on medical grounds. The court was informed by Mr Naidu’s advocates that he needs to undergo cataract surgery. While his release is expected later today, there are certain restrictions on media interaction and participation in campaign events.

It is important to note that the regular bail petition has been scheduled for November 10.

Mr Naidu was arrested last month in connection with an alleged scam amounting to Rs 371 crore involving the state’s skill development corporation. Since then, he has been in judicial custody at the Rajahmundry Central Jail.

The arrest of the former Chief Minister by the Criminal Investigation Department had sparked political turmoil in the state, leading to violent clashes between TDP supporters and the police. Party leaders have strongly criticized Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and his government, labeling it a “witch hunt”.

Additionally, Mr Naidu has been named as Accused No 3 in a separate case related to the illegal licensing of liquor companies during the previous government’s tenure.

In a letter addressed to a special court last week, Mr Naidu highlighted security lapses in the prison and requested for better arrangements that are equivalent to the Z-Plus category security cover provided to him outside of jail.

Meanwhile, a senior member of Mr Naidu’s party stated that the TDP will not participate in the upcoming November 30 election in the neighboring state of Telangana. Mr Naidu reportedly expressed difficulties in organizing campaign events from jail and emphasized the need to explain these circumstances to party workers.

It is worth mentioning that supporters of Mr Chandrababu Naidu in Telangana expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of statements condemning his arrest by the BRS (Bharatiya Rashtriya Seva). They were also denied permission to hold a protest in support of Mr Naidu in the Hitech city area.

The state of Telangana is scheduled to vote on November 30, and the results will be announced on December 3.
