A BJP leader in Chhattisgarh, Ratan Dubey, was killed by Maoists three days before the first phase of polling in the state, according to police reports. Dubey, who served as the vice-president of the BJP’s Narayanpur district unit, was campaigning for the upcoming elections when the incident occurred in the Kaushalnar area of the district on Saturday. As the representative of the area in the zilla panchayat, Dubey had gone to the Kaushalnar market area to campaign for the BJP when he was brutally murdered with an axe. The Maoists had recently issued a press note warning people against participating in the elections. In response to the murder, a team of senior police officials has been dispatched to investigate the incident. The state assembly elections will take place in two phases on November 7 and 17, with Narayanpur being one of the 20 assembly seats where voting will be held on November 7.
