Congress MP’s Vote Share Plummets After Defeat in Polls

In a recent post on social media, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh expressed optimism despite the disappointing poll defeats suffered by the party in three states – Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Ramesh highlighted the vote shares for the Congress in these states, suggesting that they were not far behind the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He stated that the vote shares indicate that the Congress is within striking distance of the BJP, giving hope for the party’s revival.

Sharing election data, Ramesh revealed that in Chhattisgarh, the BJP secured a vote share of 46.3%, while the Congress obtained 42.2%. In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP’s vote share was 48.6% compared to the Congress’ 40.4%. Similarly, in Rajasthan, the BJP had a vote share of 41.7%, while the Congress had 39.5%.

Ramesh concluded his post with the slogan “Judega Bharat, Jeetega INDIA” (India will unite and win), which is the tagline of the opposition alliance aiming to challenge the BJP in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The recent assembly poll results proved to be a setback for the Congress, as the BJP emerged victorious in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. These results contradicted the predictions of exit polls, which had anticipated a close contest in Madhya Pradesh and a Congress victory in Chhattisgarh. The Congress was only able to find solace in its win in Telangana.

Responding to the defeats, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a dig at the Congress, urging the opposition to abandon its negativity and work in the national interest.

Despite the setbacks, Jairam Ramesh’s positive outlook on the Congress’ vote shares in the three states suggests that the party is not too far behind the BJP and can potentially make a comeback in the future.
