A pilot was saved from the wing of his plane after crash-landing into alligator-infested waters in the remote Florida Everglades on October 31. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue worked together to respond to reports of a downed Cessna Skyhawk 172M aircraft in a secluded area of South West Broward County.
Upon arrival, first responders found the pilot sitting on the wing of the plane. He had been stuck there since four in the morning, contending with the presence of alligators and mosquitos. Due to the challenging terrain and the remote location of the incident, MDFR’s Air Rescue North team conducted a hoist operation to rescue the patient.
The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue shared on Facebook that the rescued pilot was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Firefighter Christopher Kramer informed Global News about the successful rescue operation.
A video captured the moment when the rescue aircraft arrived at the crash site. A first responder descended to the partially submerged plane wing and returned with the pilot. The footage was released by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue via Storyful.
