In a heartwarming turn of events, Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX and the world’s richest man, had a long-awaited reunion with his father, Errol Musk, during the recent Starship launch. The emotional encounter took place at Boca Chica in Texas, as reported by The Sun. Errol Musk attended the launch alongside his ex-wife Heide and their granddaughter Cora. This marked the first time in seven years that Elon Musk and his father met, highlighting the significance of the occasion.
Although the father and son have had a strained relationship in the past, they put their differences aside and came together for this special moment. The last time they were in each other’s presence was in 2016 when Elon Musk and his brother Kimbal celebrated their father’s 70th birthday. “The family cried. It was pretty emotional stuff. Errol was very happy to see Elon, and Elon appeared very happy to see his father,” Heidi shared with The Sun. She further described how the two immediately sat down together at Elon’s table and started conversing as if no time had passed. The meeting was deemed a “touching moment,” and the father and son engaged in a lengthy discussion.
Meanwhile, despite the reunion’s sentimental significance, a SpaceX announcer referred to the launch as an “incredibly successful day.” However, they acknowledged that there was an unexpected incident involving the Super Heavy Booster and the ship, which resulted in their disassembly. The booster rocket separated from the mega ship but subsequently exploded, followed by the destruction of the spaceship itself. Nonetheless, Elon Musk remains optimistic about the future of the Starship, envisioning its use in colonizing Mars.
The Starship itself is an impressive feat, standing at a towering height of 397 feet (121 meters) when both stages are combined. This makes it 90 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty. The launch of such a colossal rocket marks a significant milestone for SpaceX.
