Ex-NFL star, Roberto Garza, has expressed his excitement and eagerness towards the news that Madrid will be hosting an NFL match in the Santiago Bernabéu in 2025. He affirms that there is a palpable affection for American football in the city of Madrid. He believes that this event will provide Spaniards an opportunity to immerse themselves in a genuine NFL experience.

While Garza did not play a part in deciding the location for the match, he does agree that part of the NFL experience involves creating fields for children to play and develop their skills. He has been witness to the fervor and enthusiasm for sports in Madrid, having been to an Atlético game himself. The energy in the stadium was palpable, and he believes that this love for sports extends to American football as well. He is excited about the prospect of watching an NFL game in Spain, surrounded by the passionate energy of Spanish sports fans.

Roberto Garza recalls his time as a player for the Chicago Bears with great enthusiasm. After his stint with the Atlanta Falcons, he moved to Chicago, a city that he says has a deep love for the Chicago Bears and its players. From the first day, he was struck by their passion, which made him feel at home and proud to be a Bear.

Though he didn’t start as a first-team player, an injury led to him being called in as a replacement. This pivotal moment led to him signing a contract and becoming a starting player for the team for the next nine years. He describes being a player in Chicago as an incredible experience with the city showing a deep emotional connection to the team’s wins and losses.

Garza, of Mexican heritage, shared his memories of winning the National Conference title and progressing to the Super Bowl in 2007. Despite losing the grand final to the Indianapolis Colts, he still considers it an impressive achievement. He recalls how the Super Bowl, an event he watched every year as a child, brought changes to their routine, with the team relocating to Miami and adjusting to new surroundings, which he admits was a little distracting.

Lastly, Garza shared his experiences with the Bears’ ‘Mini Monsters Clinics’, an initiative where children can try out a new sport, specifically ‘flag football’. This version of football will be included in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. He expresses his hope that some of the children participating in these clinics might one day reach the Olympic Games. Over the past two years, the campaign has grown in popularity with more than a thousand children participating last year, and he expects similar numbers in Valencia, Barcelona, and Madrid this year.
