Expert Arnold Dix hailed as hero after successful tunnel rescue

The morning after the successful rescue of 41 workers trapped inside a tunnel in Uttarakhand, tunnelling expert Arnold Dix expressed his gratitude by visiting a makeshift temple near the site. Dix, who had been actively involved in the rescue operation, described the rescue as a “miracle”. In an interview with news agency ANI, he stated that he had confidently predicted that all 41 workers would be safely rescued by Christmas, and he was pleased to see his prediction come true. Dix praised the teamwork and skills of the Indian engineers involved in the mission and expressed his joy in being part of the successful operation.

Dix, who is the president of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association in Geneva, as well as a professor and barrister, has been stationed in Uttarkashi since the beginning of the rescue operation. He has been assisting the rescue teams and providing updates to the media on the progress of the operation. His dedication and willingness to help in this crisis have earned him praise from all quarters.

A video of Dix praying at the makeshift temple for the safety of the workers went viral and touched the hearts of many. When asked about it, he explained that he had made a promise to say thank you at the temple for the miraculous rescue. He emphasized that the rescue operation was indeed a miracle and urged everyone to acknowledge it.

The 41 workers were brought out of the tunnel one by one after facing numerous challenges due to the difficult terrain. Despite setbacks, the rescue teams, including manual drilling experts, persevered and successfully completed the task. The rescue brought immense relief and joy to the workers’ families and the rescue teams.

Notably, Arnold Dix, an Australian citizen, also received praise from his country’s High Commissioner to India, Philip Green. Green commended Dix for his technical support on the ground and considered the tunnel rescue operation an “immense achievement.”
