Flu Deaths Increase by 20% This Year Compared to Last Year

In the current year, a concerning rise in the mortality rate from influenza has been reported by the Ministry of Health. The rate has seen a surge of 20% compared to the same period in the previous year. The statistics put forth consider the deaths of patients which occurred within a span of 30 days post their diagnosis in the hospital. This information was broadcasted by the Kan-11 TV channel.

Katie Dor, a journalist associated with the Kan-11 TV channel, shared her views on these statistics during the evening news segment. She interpreted the surge in mortality rate as a direct consequence of a decrease in the level of vaccination among the population. This includes senior citizens, where the vaccination rate has dropped by 17% this year compared to the last. Another significant observation she made was that the peak of incidence this year came about later than the previous year, however, the spreading rate of the virus was significantly faster.

According to the Kan-11 TV channel, it seems that the peak of the incidence rate is now behind us. A normal functioning has been resumed in some hospital emergency rooms. However, there are still certain clinics where the emergency departments are experiencing a high influx of patients. An example of this was observed at the Kaplan hospital on Sunday, March 3, where 19 patients were in need of beds in the emergency department, exceeding the available capacity.
