Former President Donald Trump’s older sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, passes away at the age of 86, leaving behind a legacy as a retired federal judge

Maryanne Trump Barry, the retired federal judge and older sister of former President Donald Trump, has passed away at the age of 86 in her New York home. Barry served as a senior judge on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals until her retirement in 2019. The New York Police Department confirmed that officers were dispatched to Barry’s Manhattan residence early in the morning and found the body of an 86-year-old woman. The cause of death has not been determined yet. The news of her passing was disclosed by an anonymous judicial official as it had not been publicly announced by the court or the Trump family.

There has been no immediate response from Donald Trump’s campaign regarding Barry’s death. Prior to her judicial career, Barry served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in 1974 and was nominated to the federal court in New Jersey by former President Ronald Reagan. Later, former President Bill Clinton elevated her to the U.S. Court of Appeals. In 2019, Barry retired amidst an investigation into her family’s tax practices.

During her brother’s presidency, Barry mostly remained out of the public eye. However, she made headlines when her niece, Mary Trump, revealed secretly recorded conversations in which Barry sharply criticized Donald Trump, stating that he had no principles and was cruel.

Barry’s death follows the passing of Donald Trump’s younger brother, Robert Trump, in 2020, and his older brother, Fred Trump Jr., who died of a heart attack at the age of 42. Additionally, Donald Trump’s ex-wife, Ivana Trump, passed away in 2022 at the age of 73.

The news of Maryanne Trump Barry’s death was initially reported by the Daily Voice in Nassau County. Dale reported from Philadelphia, with contributions from Associated Press writer Jill Colvin.
