Giriraj Singh Locks Horns with Trinamool Congress in Battle of Words Over ‘Thumka Comment’ on Mamata Banerjee

The Trinamool Congress, the ruling party in West Bengal, has criticized Union Minister Giriraj Singh for his remarks about Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee dancing with celebrities. The party has called his comments “misogynistic” and “archaic” and has demanded an apology. Singh, on the other hand, denies making any inappropriate comments and accuses the Trinamool Congress of trying to “create confusion.”

The Trinamool Congress posted a video clip of Singh’s speech on social media, comparing it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s previous remarks about Mamata Banerjee. The party claims that these comments reflect a mindset of gender bias and an inability to accept a woman in power.

In the video posted by the Trinamool Congress, Singh is heard saying, “She is celebrating and dancing; this is inappropriate.” The party has expressed anger and questioned the BJP’s right to disrespect a woman. Bengal Minister Shashi Panja has stated that even if Singh apologizes, it would not be enough.

In an interview with NDTV, Singh defends himself, stating that he did not say anything wrong. He clarifies that his statement was about the Chief Minister of a state with high poverty levels celebrating at an event. He emphasizes that his comments were directed at the Chief Minister and not against any woman leader.

Banerjee herself responded to the controversy by stating that she occasionally joins in a few dance steps when requested, similar to how she dances with tribal performers.

The Trinamool Congress is now awaiting a response to its criticisms from the BJP.
