Google, the tech giant, has recently undertaken a significant restructuring of its conversational generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This reformed architecture is now collectively known under the banner of the Gemini brand. This brand will also be the new identity of its ‘chatbot’ service, previously known as Bard. Furthermore, Google has made the exciting announcement that its most advanced language model will be accessible through the Google One AI Premium subscription.
The ‘chatbot’, known as Bard was first introduced by Google about a year ago. The key purpose of this chatbot was to enhance the search for information, leveraging the Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) conversation technology. Since December, this technology has been supercharged by the Gemini Pro model.
Part of Google’s large language model (LLM) family, Gemini Pro is a natively multimodal AI. This advanced AI system can effortlessly comprehend, manipulate and amalgamate different forms of information, including but not limited to, text, code, audio, image and video.
“Gemini is evolving to be more than just models,” Google has proclaimed. In this evolution, the most advanced model, previously known as Ultra, has been rebranded as Gemini Advanced. This model is now integrated into a broader range of the company’s products, offering users a “new experience much more capable of reasoning, following instructions, coding, and collaborating creatively.”
Google One AI Premium subscription plan now includes Gemini Advanced, consolidating Google’s AI capabilities into one comprehensive platform.
In addition to these changes, Google has also renamed its chatbot Bard as Gemini. As of this Thursday, Gemini will be accessible in 40 languages on the web. It will also be available on a new Gemini app on Android and the Google app on iOS.
In the forthcoming weeks, Google Cloud and Workspace customers can expect to see Duet AI transform into Gemini. This assistant will be available in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Meet, courtesy of the Google One AI Premium plan.
