Harbhajan Singh Calls for an End to Unacceptable Conduct: Fans Targeting Australian Players and Their Families Criticized

Following India’s defeat in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has urged cricket fans not to troll Australian cricketers and their families. Harbhajan took to his official social media account and expressed his disapproval of trolling the family members of the World Cup winners, stating that it is in bad taste. He acknowledged that India lost to a better team in the final, but emphasized that fans should not engage in such behavior.

Harbhajan concluded his post by emphasizing the importance of sanity and dignity. He wrote, “Reports of trolling of family members of Australian cricket players is completely in bad taste. We played well but lost the final to better cricket by the Aussies. That’s it. Why troll the players and their families? Requesting all cricket fans to stop such behavior. Sanity and dignity are more important.”

Following India’s loss, several cricket fans resorted to trolling the family members of Australian cricketers on social media. This was highlighted by Vini Raman, the wife of Australian all-rounder Glen Maxwell. In an Instagram post, she expressed her disappointment and urged fans to direct their outrage towards more important issues. She reminded fans that one can be Indian and still support the country of their birth and the team their husband represents.

Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh also faced trolling on social media for sharing a picture of himself with his feet on the World Cup Trophy.

In the match, India scored 240 runs in 50 overs. Despite a tough batting surface, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul played crucial innings. Mitchell Starc was the standout bowler for Australia, taking three wickets. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood also bowled well, taking two wickets each. Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell each claimed a wicket.

While chasing 241, India had Australia struggling at 47/3. However, outstanding performances from Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne led Australia to a six-wicket victory.

The World Cup finalists will now face each other in a five-match T20I series, starting on Thursday in Visakhapatnam.
