Industrialist Harsh Goenka has faced significant backlash for his recent comments about World Cup tickets. In a post on social media, Goenka claimed that businessmen had been given free passes to watch the World Cup finals. His statement drew criticism from a certain section of society.
Goenka’s tweet read, “None of my businessmen friends have paid to get tickets for the #WorldcupFinal, they have all managed to get a ‘pass’. And that’s where the irony lies- it’s the rich who don’t want to pay!” Many people responded to his tweet, questioning what he had done to secure tickets for the finals. Goenka simply replied, “Neither.”
The prices of tickets for the final match have skyrocketed, with some reaching as high as Rs 1.87 lakh. On ticket re-selling site viagogo.com, a tier 4 ticket was priced at Rs 1,87,407, while an adjacent tier’s ticket cost Rs 1,57,421. The cheapest ticket available on the site was priced at over Rs 32,000.
