A crypto mining rig was discovered operating underneath the Supreme Administrative Court in Warsaw, Poland, stealing electricity from the government building. The rig’s computers were hidden inside ventilation ducts, and it was estimated that several thousand Polish zlotys worth of electricity were being pilfered each month. After the discovery, two contractors responsible for servicing the technical floor were fired, and their company’s contract was terminated. Despite the incident, a judge from the administrative court assured that no court data had been compromised. This type of energy theft is not uncommon in the crypto mining industry, with similar cases reported worldwide. In Malaysia, two rigs were found stealing electricity worth $6,500 per month at a state-owned facility. In Poland, there was a previous incident where an IT specialist was caught running a secret mining rig from within the police headquarters. These incidents highlight the financial incentives that drive individuals to steal electricity, even from government buildings.
