India Becomes Team with Most T20I Wins, Defeats Australia in Fourth Match
The Indian cricket team achieved a significant milestone on Friday as they became the team with the most wins in the T20I format. This accomplishment came during the fourth T20I match against Australia in Raipur. India secured a 20-run victory, restricting Australia to 154/7 while chasing a target of 175 runs. With this win, India not only clinched the five-match series with a 3-1 lead but also registered their 136th win in the T20I format.
Since their debut in the T20I format back in 2006, India has played a total of 213 matches. Out of these, they have emerged victorious in 136 matches, lost 67, and had one match end in a tie. Three matches have produced no result. India currently holds a win percentage of 63.84 in the format, surpassing Pakistan, who previously held the record with 135 wins in 226 matches.
Other top teams in T20I cricket include New Zealand with 102 wins in 200 matches, Australia with 95 wins in 181 matches, and South Africa with 95 wins in 171 matches.
In the fourth match against Australia, India was put to bat by the opposition. Impressive performances by Yashasvi Jaiswal (37 runs off 28 balls), Ruturaj Gaikwad (32 runs off 28 balls), Rinku Singh (46 runs off 29 balls), and Jitesh Sharma (35 runs off 19 balls) helped India post a total of 174/9 in 20 overs.
Australia’s Ben Dwarshuis shined with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 40 runs in his second T20I appearance. Tanveer Sangha (2/30) and Jason Behrendorff also contributed well. Aaron Hardie managed to take a wicket as well.
Chasing a target of 175, Australia got off to a good start with Travis Head scoring 31 runs off 16 balls. However, they soon lost their way. Matthew Short (22 runs off 19 balls) and captain Matthew Wade (36 runs off 23 balls) tried their best to steer Australia towards victory, but they fell short by 20 runs.
Axar Patel, with figures of 3/16, and Ravi Bishnoi, with figures of 1/17, controlled the run flow brilliantly with their spin bowling. Deepak Chahar took 2 wickets for 44 runs, and Avesh Khan also managed to take a wicket.
With a match remaining in the series, India has already secured a 3-1 lead. Axar Patel was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding performance.
