Indian wicketkeeper-batter, Sanju Samson, recently revealed that Rohit Sharma was one of the first people to reach out to him after he was left out of the ODI World Cup 2023 squad. During an interview on the YouTube channel ‘I AM with Dhanya Varma’, the 29-year-old shared that Rohit praised him for his performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but jokingly mentioned that he hit too many sixes against the Mumbai Indians.
Samson expressed his gratitude for the support he received from Rohit and referred to him as one of his biggest supporters. “Rohit Sharma was the first or second person who came to me and talked. He told me, ‘Hey Sanju, wassup. You performed well in the IPL but hit too many sixes against the Mumbai Indians. You bat really well.’ I had great support from him,” Samson said.
Despite being labeled as the “unluckiest cricketer” by some, Samson believes that he has achieved more than he ever imagined. He expressed his contentment with his current position and stated, “People call me the unluckiest cricketer, but where I’ve reached currently, it’s much more than what I thought I could.”
Sanju Samson made his international debut in the T20 format back in 2015. Since then, he has played 24 matches and scored 374 runs. In the ODI format, he has appeared in 12 innings, accumulating 390 runs with an impressive average of 55.71.
While his international record may not be exceptional, Samson has had a remarkable career in the IPL. He has played 152 matches and scored 3888 runs. His last international appearance was in the second T20I match against Ireland in August 2020, where he showcased his skills with a 40-run knock from just 26 balls.
Despite the disappointment of being excluded from the ODI World Cup squad, Samson remains optimistic about his future in cricket. With the support of players like Rohit Sharma, he is determined to make a mark and continue his impressive performances in the sport.
