India’s Vice-Captain Position for Cricket World Cup 2023 Handed Over to Veteran Star, Replacing Hardik Pandya

Veteran Star Replaces Hardik Pandya as India’s Vice-Captain in Cricket World Cup 2023

In a major setback for the Rohit Sharma-led Team India, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of the Cricket World Cup 2023. This news comes as a blow to the team, especially considering that Hardik was not only a key player but also the vice-captain. His absence will undoubtedly be felt as he provides a crucial balance to the playing XI.

Hardik sustained an ankle injury while attempting to stop a shot off his own bowling during the match against Bangladesh on October 19. Since then, he has been sidelined due to the injury, which eventually forced him to withdraw from the tournament.

In light of Hardik’s absence, KL Rahul has been appointed as the new vice-captain of the Indian cricket team. This announcement was made by India’s head coach Rahul Dravid during a pre-match press conference. He stated, “Yeah, so he’s the vice-captain because Hardik is injured. So, he has become the vice-captain.”

Hardik himself took to social media to express his disappointment about missing out on the rest of the World Cup. However, he assured fans that he would continue to support the team from the sidelines. His message on X (formerly known as Twitter) read, “Tough to digest the fact that I will miss out on the remaining part of the World Cup. I will be with the team, in spirit, cheering them on every ball of every game. Thanks for all the wishes, the love, and the support has been incredible. This team is special, and I’m sure we’ll make everyone proud. Love, always, HP.”

Despite the setback, India remains at the top of the Cricket World Cup 2023 points table, having won all seven matches in the tournament so far. They have already secured a spot in the semi-finals.

Before their knockout game, India will face South Africa on November 5 and Netherlands on November 12.
