Kim Taylor, the wife of an Iowa county supervisor, has been found guilty of 52 counts of voter fraud, marking the end of a lengthy investigation into her involvement in the 2020 election. The federal prosecutors revealed that Taylor had attempted to manipulate the voting process in the Iowa primary and general elections last year, with the intention of aiding her husband, Woodbury County Supervisor Jeremy Taylor, in winning the primary for Rep. Steve King’s former seat.
Despite her efforts, Jeremy Taylor was unsuccessful in securing the primary victory, receiving only 8 percent of the vote. Nevertheless, prosecutors alleged that Kim Taylor continued to violate the law by assisting her husband’s re-election campaign as a supervisor later that year, which he did win.
Prosecutors stated that Taylor had applied for and submitted fraudulent absentee ballots, forged signatures on behalf of voters without their consent, and encouraged others to do the same. Consequently, she was apprehended in January.
Each of the 52 counts of voter fraud carries a maximum sentence of five years. However, a date for her sentencing has yet to be determined.
In a statement to local outlet KCAU, U.S. Attorney Timothy Duax denounced Taylor’s actions, emphasizing the significance of the right to vote. He proclaimed that by depriving citizens of their voting rights for the benefit of her husband’s campaign, Taylor had violated a fundamental constitutional right. Duax expressed satisfaction with the guilty verdict, highlighting its role in safeguarding citizens’ voting rights and ensuring fair and honest elections.
Jeremy Taylor, who remains in his position as a county supervisor, defended his wife in a statement. He acknowledged that the outcome was not what they had hoped for but respected the court system’s decision to allow the jury to hear his wife’s side of the story. Taylor affirmed his commitment to prioritizing decisions that benefit the families in their county, but currently, his focus is on dealing with the verdict privately to support his own family, including his wife and children.
