The Israeli Defense Force (IDF) has released videos claiming to have discovered a “terrorist tunnel” beneath Gaza’s largest hospital, the Al-Shifa hospital. The hospital is crucial for the inhabitants of the besieged Palestinian region. Israel has alleged that the hospital serves as an operational headquarters for Hamas following the October 7 attacks and subsequent Israeli military intervention in Gaza.
In a recent video, Israeli special forces are seen entering a shaft located in the middle of a courtyard within the Al-Shifa premises. According to the IDF, the shaft leads to a tunnel that opens into a corridor. An IDF official stated, “We went inside, escorted by special forces, as we needed to pass through a warehouse where a significant amount of ammunition, guns, and explosives were discovered and had to be disposed of.” The official also mentioned that during the initial search, a truck full of ammunition was found.
Further investigations using specialized equipment revealed that the shaft was 10 meters deep and led to a corridor. At the end of the corridor, there was a blast-proof door with a shooting hole at the top. After ensuring the dismantling of all defense mechanisms, the forces opened the door, revealing another door leading deeper into the complex.
Both the Israeli military and Hamas have accused each other of engaging in a “propaganda war” since the region descended into chaos post the October 7 attacks. Misleading images and unrelated videos accompanied by false claims have been circulating on social media. It is essential to differentiate between authentic footage and firsthand accounts of the destruction and misinformation or misrepresentation of videos from unrelated incidents.
