Kajol’s Deepfake Video Goes Viral, Following Rashmika Mandanna and Katrina Kaif

A new deepfake video featuring Bollywood actor Kajol has been circulating online, following the recent circulation of deepfake videos and photos of Rashmika Mandanna and Katrina Kaif. The altered video shows a woman with Kajol’s face changing clothes on camera. However, fact-checking platforms like BoomLive have confirmed that the video is actually of an English social media influencer who originally posted it on TikTok as part of a trend. The deepfake video, which emerged a few days ago, fooled many users into thinking it was Kajol herself. BoomLive and other websites pointed out that the video was created using artificial intelligence tools that can manipulate and replace a person’s face in videos and pictures, often leading to fabricated content. The influencer, Rosie Breen, originally posted the video on TikTok on June 5, 2023, but in the edited version, her face has been replaced by Kajol’s, making it appear as if the actress is changing outfits and showcasing her body. This latest video comes amidst growing concerns about deepfake technology, especially after the circulation of altered videos and pictures of popular actresses like Katrina Kaif and Rashmika Mandanna. In response to the deepfake video, Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan has called for legal action, and an FIR has been registered by the Delhi Police in the case of Rashmika Mandanna. A 19-year-old from Bihar was also questioned as a suspect in uploading the video on social media.
