On the morning of this Monday (12), the renowned attacker Leandro Damião has made an appearance at the Coritiba football club. The new number 9 of the Coxa team arrived in Curitiba by car and went straight to the Graciosa CT to undergo the required medical examinations.
The seasoned 34-year-old player has committed himself to the club by signing a contract valid until the end of the current season. Previously, he was part of the Kawasaki Frontale club from Japan, where he showcased his skills by playing 178 games, scoring 71 goals and assisting 24 times in a span of five seasons.
Damião also had notable spells at the Internacional, Flamengo, and Santos clubs in Brazil. Interestingly, he had collaborated with coach Guto Ferreira back at Inter in 2017 and is now set to replace Slimani.
The expectations surrounding him are soaring high. “This is a historically champion club and I am extremely motivated by challenges. I am confident that together with my teammates, we will achieve great results and bring joy to this passionate fan base,” he stated on Coritiba’s social media last week.
Although his availability for the duel against Maringá on Wednesday (14), at 8 pm, at Couto Pereira, for the ninth round of Paranaense is doubtful, he could be registered for the Atletiba classic on Sunday (18), at 6:30 pm, once again at the Alviverde stadium. However, his physical condition will be the deciding factor.
