Manipur Couple Brutally Attacked in Delhi’s Sunlight Colony; Feared for Their Lives

A Manipur couple along with two other individuals were brutally assaulted by a group of eight to nine people in Sunlight Colony, southeast Delhi. The incident, which occurred on Thursday night, was recorded on a mobile phone from a nearby balcony and has since gone viral on social media.

An FIR was filed on Friday night against the unidentified attackers, with charges including sexual assault. The complainant, who filed the FIR at the Sunlight Colony police station, stated that the faces of two of the accused were clearly visible on CCTV footage.

The mobile footage shows the couple, along with the man’s sister and a family friend, being punched, kicked, and dragged along a narrow street by the group. According to the man, the assault began after the group approached them asking for help in booking a cab. When the man’s wife and sister objected to the lewd comments made by one of the men, the situation escalated and more people joined in the attack.

The victims suffered severe injuries, with the man having a black eye and swollen cheeks, while his wife showed bruises on her knees. They expressed their fear during the assault, believing that they might not survive as no one intervened to stop the attackers.

The police statement revealed that the man was taken to a hospital, where doctors confirmed serious assault injuries, including abrasions on the knees, redness, and swelling in the eyes, and swelling on the forehead. The police have assured that they are actively working to apprehend all the attackers, starting with the two men identified through the CCTV footage.
