Sports presenter Mayanti Langer has hit back at trolls who criticized her attire during the semi-final clash between India and New Zealand at the World Cup 2023. Langer was wearing a blazer and skirt, which prompted some social media users to edit pictures of her and former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar. However, ahead of the final between India and Australia, Langer took to social media to sarcastically respond to the trolls, stating that she can afford a full suit for the final.
Langer posted on X (formerly Twitter), “So moved by your genuine concern regarding budgets. Concerns that have me tagged in innumerable posts, my family and friends being inundated by images, some altered perhaps to play down the atrocity of a Blazer dress. Fear not, we can afford a full suit for the Final.” She accompanied the post with a picture of herself dressed in a suit.
Mayanti Langer began her broadcasting career in 2007 and has since become one of the most well-known faces on television.
In the upcoming final, India will face off against Australia at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. This final is a repeat of the 2003 Cricket World Cup summit clash. India secured their place in the final with a 70-run victory over New Zealand in the semi-final at Mumbai. This will be India’s fourth World Cup final, having previously won the title in 1983 and 2011, as well as losing to Australia in 2003. India will be aiming to win their third title and seek revenge for their loss to Australia in Johannesburg.
Australia reached the final by defeating South Africa in another closely contested match at Kolkata. This will be their eighth World Cup final, with previous victories in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015.
