The southbound lanes have reopened.

Video from a Channel 11 News photographer shows the smoldering remains of a burned-out truck on its roof in the northbound lanes of I-79. The crash happened in a construction zone around 12:20 a.m. Thursday.

Channel 11 has learned two people were taken to the hospital.

Just before 7 a.m., a large truck was towed away from the scene.

We spoke with some drivers familiar with the area, some of whom have actually worked in construction zones. They believe that there needs to be more signs in these areas and that people need to slow down.

We’ve reached out to state police for more information and are waiting to hear back.

PennDOT recommends the following detour:

From northbound I-79:

  • Take the Emsworth/Sewickley exit (Exit 66)

  • Continue left toward the ramp to Emsworth/Route 65 South

  • Turn left onto Camp Horne Road

  • Turn left onto the ramp for I-279 North

  • Follow I-279 North to I-79 North

  • End detour.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
