On the last Thursday of February, precisely on the 29th, the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, took the helm of a significant meeting. This meeting was convened for the Ministerial Commission which focuses on the fight against the exorbitant Cost of Living. This important gathering took place within the confines of the Kiriya complex which is located in the vibrant city of Tel Aviv.
Key members of the government, including the ministers responsible for the economy, finance, and health sectors, were in attendance. They took the opportunity to put forward the primary stipulations of a proposed law concerning free imports. The guiding principle of this draft legislation was articulated as: “What is good for Europe is good for Israel.” The Prime Minister, acting in his capacity as the head of the government, issued instructions for these principal stipulations of the proposed law to be made available for public discourse. This was to be accomplished within a week’s time. Furthermore, he ordered for the draft law to be presented for approval to the Knesset, during the ongoing legislative session.
The meeting was initiated by Prime Minister Netanyahu who expressed his optimism in his opening remarks. He announced, “Today we have good news regarding the fight against the high cost of living: what is good for Europe is good for Israel. I wish to express my gratitude towards the distinguished ministers of health, economy, finance, energy, and agriculture. I also extend my thanks to the diligent staff of my ministry, and also to you, Professor Simhon, for your significant contribution in making this agreement possible. This week, we will put forth the primary stipulations of the proposed law before the esteemed members of the Knesset. Our aim is to ensure its swift adoption. This will pave the way for a significantly lower price index for cosmetics and food items in the State of Israel. This is indeed a great benefit for our citizens.”
