Three theatres in Toronto, Canada that were showing Hindi movies were attacked this week, as per the police. Masked men entered the theatres and sprayed an unknown substance, leading to the evacuation of several moviegoers.
One of the incidents occurred on Tuesday evening at a cinema complex in Vaughan, according to a statement by the York Regional Police. During the screening of a Hindi film, the attackers sprayed an “unknown, aerosol-based, irritating substance” into the air, causing people in the audience to cough. The suspects, two males wearing masks and hoods, left before the police arrived.
Approximately 200 people were present at the time of the attack. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and the police have released photos of the suspects.
York police are coordinating with Peel and Toronto police regarding similar incidents that took place this week. Peel police confirmed that they responded to a theatre in Brampton after receiving reports of a substance being sprayed on the premises. Toronto police also received a call about a “stink bomb” being set off in a Scarborough Town Centre theatre on Tuesday night. The theatre was evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
The motive behind these attacks remains unknown, and authorities are examining the possibility of a connection between the incidents.
