Tim Scott, a Republican senator from South Carolina, has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race following the public revelation of his relationship with his girlfriend. Scott made the announcement during an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy,” stating that he loves America but will not continue his campaign as a presidential candidate. The senator recently faced criticism for keeping his relationship with Mindy Noce, an interior designer he has been dating for about a year, secretive. The details of their relationship came to light after Scott was questioned about his marital status, with some speculating about his sexual orientation. In response, Scott expressed his frustration with such discrimination and bias, stating that he did not disclose their relationship publicly because he did not want to involve her in the campaign unless he intended to marry her.
Scott’s presidential campaign encountered obstacles from the beginning. A Morning Consult poll revealed that more than half of GOP primary voters had not heard anything about Scott’s candidacy a week after his campaign rollout, with only 38% hearing something positive about him. Despite this, Scott managed to accumulate substantial financial resources, starting with $22 million before his announcement and receiving significant backing from Larry Ellison, the co-founder of Oracle Corporation. Ellison contributed $35 million to Scott’s super PAC, Opportunity Matters Fund.
During the Fox News interview, Scott stated that he does not plan to endorse another candidate for the Republican primary, respecting the wishes of the voters who have made it clear that now is not his time. A spokesperson for Scott’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
