Mumbai Couple Arrested for Selling Newborn and 2-Year-Old Son to Support Drug Addiction

The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested three individuals, including a couple, for allegedly selling their children to obtain money for purchasing drugs. The police rescued a one-month-old baby girl in Andheri on Friday, but the search for their two-year-old son is still ongoing.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shabbir and Sania Khan, the parents, and Shakeel Makrani. Additionally, Usha Rathod, an alleged agent involved in the sale, has been detained by the Crime Branch.

According to Daya Nayak from the Mumbai Crime Branch, “A couple addicted to drugs sold their own two children to raise money in Andheri. Once the couple’s family became aware of the incident, the story came to light. The accused couple and two others have been charged, with the boy being sold for sixty thousand rupees and the one-month-old girl for fourteen thousand rupees.”

Shabbir and Sania, both drug addicts, were unable to sustain their addiction without funds. This is when Usha Rathod entered the picture and made contact with them. The couple sold their son to an unidentified individual for sixty thousand rupees, while their one-month-old daughter was sold to Shakeel Makrani for fourteen thousand rupees.

When Rubina Khan, Shabbir’s sister, discovered the incident, she was shocked and immediately reported it to the D.N. Nagar police station. She filed a complaint against her brother and sister-in-law, prompting the D.N. Nagar police to register a case and transfer the investigation to the Crime Branch.

Currently, the police are still searching for the couple’s two-year-old son. The investigation is ongoing.
