Tesla’s highly anticipated Cybertruck has been making appearances around the world, piquing the curiosity of onlookers. However, its unique design and covered bed have left many wondering about its actual functionality as a pickup truck. Fortunately, a recent video shared by user omg_Tesla/Rivian on X (formerly known as Twitter) has shed some light on this aspect.
The video, captured in Monterey, California, showcases the Cybertruck shifting into pickup mode. The footage reveals the retracting tonneau cover at the back of the vehicle, exposing the truck bed, followed by the unlatching of the tailgate. In response to a comment, the user notes that the sound of the retracting tonneau cover resembles that of a roller coaster.
Despite the excitement surrounding the Cybertruck, Tesla has yet to release the exact specifications and price of the vehicle. While the starting price was initially announced as approximately $40,000 in 2019, experts speculate that the final cost may be closer to $70,000 for the base model. This estimate takes into consideration Tesla’s plan to offer more advanced and costly dual-motor and tri-motor models exclusively.
Car and Driver reports that the single motor variant is expected to have a minimum range of 250 miles, while the dual motor model will offer at least 300 miles of range. The tri-motor versions, on the other hand, may exceed 500 miles on a single charge.
The Cybertruck represents Tesla’s commitment to electrifying vehicles globally. This effort aligns with the broader electrification movement supported by companies like Rivian and the transition of traditional automakers like General Motors. The shift towards electric vehicles is crucial in combating carbon pollution, as gas-powered passenger cars alone contribute around 3.3 billion tons of carbon emissions annually, as per Statista.
Additional videos of the Cybertruck have showcased its interior features and impressive acceleration capabilities. As the world moves towards a greener future, it is important to explore alternative means of transportation that are less harmful to the environment, such as electric vehicles.
