Virat Kohli Equals Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI Centuries Record
Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar expressed his hope that Virat Kohli will surpass his record of One-Day International (ODI) centuries in the near future. Kohli recently equaled Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries, achieving this feat in his 277th innings, much quicker than Tendulkar’s 438. Kohli’s unbeaten 101 against South Africa in a Cricket World Cup match at the Eden Gardens helped him join Tendulkar at the top of the list. Coincidentally, this milestone was achieved on Kohli’s 35th birthday.
Tendulkar took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Kohli and express his wish for him to break his record. He posted, “Well played Virat. It took me 365 days to go from 49 to 50 earlier this year. I hope you go from 49 to 50 and break my record in the next few days. Congratulations!!” Tendulkar’s tweet was accompanied by a picture of the two cricketing legends together.
Kohli, who has already amassed over 26,000 international runs, described the century as a dream come true, especially on his birthday. His unbeaten 101 was the highlight of India’s total score of 326-5 in their 50 overs. Kohli credited his partnership with Shreyas Iyer (77) for their third-wicket stand of 134 runs. He also mentioned that the pitch was challenging to bat on but expressed his satisfaction in maintaining the team’s momentum.
As Kohli continues to break records and achieve new milestones, cricket fans eagerly await his next century, which could see him surpass Tendulkar’s record.
