Soap Opera Star Tyler Christopher Passes Away at Age 50, Known for Roles in ‘General Hospital’ and ‘Days of Our Lives’

Soap opera actor Tyler Christopher, known for his roles in “General Hospital” and “Days of Our Lives,” has passed away at the age of 50. Mr. Christopher died in his San Diego apartment on Tuesday morning following a cardiac event. His former “General Hospital” co-star Maurice Benard confirmed the news of his death on Instagram.

In an Instagram post, Benard wrote, “It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher. Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment. Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting.”

Benard also mentioned Christopher’s advocacy for better mental health and substance use treatment, as he openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol. He described Christopher as a sweet soul and a wonderful friend to all who knew him. Benard expressed his devastation over the loss and offered prayers for Christopher’s children and his father.

The official “General Hospital” Instagram account shared a statement from producer Frank Valentini, expressing his heartbreak over Christopher’s passing. Valentini described him as kind, an incredible actor, and a dear friend who was beloved by the “GH” family and fans of his character, Nikolas Cassadine. Valentini extended heartfelt sympathies to Christopher’s loved ones during this difficult time.

Tyler Christopher played the role of Nikolas Cassadine on “General Hospital” on and off between 1996 and 2016, earning him a Daytime Emmy award in 2016. He also portrayed Stefan DiMera in “Days of Our Lives” from 2018 to 2019. Throughout his career, Christopher won a Daytime Emmy Award for his “Days of Our Lives” role and received five nominations.

In addition to his soap opera work, Christopher made appearances in films such as “Thor: God of Thunder,” “Shouting Secrets,” “Out of the Black,” and “Pretty Broken.” He was married to former ESPN reporter Brienne Pedigo from 2008 to 2021, and they share two children. Previously, Christopher was married to “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004.
