Teenager Attacked with Acid by Rape Accused Out on Bail, Accused Commits Suicide

A rape accused who was out on bail attacked a minor girl with acid and then died by suicide in central Delhi yesterday, according to the police. Prem Singh, who had been granted bail to attend a family wedding, approached the woman who had accused him of rape and asked her to withdraw the complaint. When she refused, he threw acid on her 17-year-old daughter and consumed some himself.

Prem Singh and the woman were neighbors in Delhi’s Anand Parbat area. “The man was out on interim bail when he threatened the victim’s mother to withdraw the case. When she refused, he attacked her daughter,” officials said. Both Prem Singh and the girl were immediately taken to a nearby hospital by onlookers in the colony. Sadly, Prem Singh passed away during the treatment, while the girl was discharged after receiving medical care.
