Tesla Surpasses Wastewater Limits in Berlin

Water Association Strausberg-Erkner (WSE), the German drinking water company, has raised concerns over American car manufacturer Tesla’s factory near Berlin. According to WSE, the factory “continuously and significantly exceeds wastewater limits”. The association also claims that despite their numerous requests and warnings, Tesla has failed to offer any solution, nor has there been any promise of addressing this issue in the future. In addition to this, the factory is also reported to exceed nitrogen standards.

WSE has decided to hold an extraordinary meeting in March to discuss the possible termination of wastewater disposal at the Tesla factory in Grünheide, located just outside Berlin. The water company is considering this step as it could potentially face millions in additional costs if the current situation persists.

Tesla, on the other hand, maintains that it has not been informed of the upcoming extraordinary meeting or the agenda item related to them. Furthermore, the electric car manufacturer insists that it utilizes its own facilities for the treatment of industrial wastewater.

The car manufacturer has also faced recent backlash from local residents over its plans to further expand the factory site in Grünheide. Environmentalists have shown opposition to these plans, particularly due to the fact that forests have to be cut down to accommodate this expansion. Part of the proposed expansion area also falls within a water protection area, raising additional environmental concerns.
