Top Biden Aide Holds Meeting with S Jaishankar Amid Controversy Surrounding Khalistani Terrorist Murder Plot

A senior advisor to US President Joe Biden is currently in New Delhi to discuss various bilateral issues, including allegations surrounding the assassination attempt on a Khalistani terrorist, according to the White House. Jon Finer, the Principal Deputy National Security Advisor, led a delegation on December 4 to assess the progress made in the US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) with India’s Deputy National Security Advisor Vikram Misri. The White House emphasized that the iCET is a significant milestone in the growing strategic security and technology cooperation between the US and India. During the visit, Finer engaged in bilateral and regional consultations with S Jaishankar, the Minister of External Affairs, Ajit Doval, the National Security Advisor, and Vinay Kwatra, the Foreign Secretary. The discussions focused on strengthening coordination and policy alignment across the Indo-Pacific, including the wider Indian Ocean Region. The parties also touched on the Middle East, addressing recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the importance of preserving freedom of commercial navigation. Additionally, they discussed plans for a post-conflict Gaza and a potential pathway to a two-state solution. The White House acknowledged India’s establishment of a Committee of Inquiry to investigate the alleged assassination plot and stressed the significance of holding accountable those responsible. The US State Department also commended the Indian government’s decision to form the committee.
