Tragic Suicide Note Reveals Kerala Doctor Shahana Mentions EA Ruwaisi as Boyfriend

A 26-year-old doctor in Kerala named Shahana has tragically died by suicide after her boyfriend allegedly demanded dowry and her family was unable to fulfill his demands. In a suicide note believed to be written by Dr. Shahana, she accused her boyfriend, Dr. EA Ruwais, of pressuring her to take her own life due to his dowry demands.

Dr. Shahana wrote in the note, “It is true that my family cannot provide one and a half kg of gold and acres of land if they ask for the same.” The police discovered the suicide note in the apartment where she was found dead and have arrested Dr. Ruwais as the accused perpetrator, according to PTI.

Dr. Shahana’s family has claimed that Dr. Ruwais’s family demanded 150 gold sovereigns, 15 acres of land, and a BMW car as dowry. When Dr. Shahana’s family expressed their inability to meet these demands, her boyfriend’s family called off the wedding.

Based on the suicide note recovered by the police, it appears that Dr. Shahana took her own life because she believed that her boyfriend intended to ruin her life by falsely promising to marry her. She mentioned in the note that everyone seemed overly focused on money, as reported by Matrubhumi.

Jasim Nas, Shahana’s brother, shared with Matrubhumi that in November, he and his mother visited Dr. Ruwais’s family, where they encountered strong insistence on dowry from his father. Jasim stated, “I told them that we would give as much as we could, but they were not willing to negotiate.” Shahana had two siblings, and their father passed away two years ago.

Jasim revealed that although Ruwais and Shahana were in a relationship, he did not support her in this difficult situation. “We were open to the idea of a registry marriage, but Ruwais wanted the dowry demanded by his parents. He backed out,” Jasim said, adding that these events deeply hurt his sister emotionally. Jasim also mentioned to the media that Shahana chose to marry Ruwais because she believed he was a good man.

The state health minister, Veena George, has ordered an investigation into the matter to ensure justice for Dr. Shahana.
