Former President Donald Trump and his legal team are intentionally provoking the judge in his civil fraud trial in an effort to elicit a strong reaction that could benefit their case. Sources familiar with the matter claim that Trump and his attorneys are deliberately violating the judge’s orders and engaging in aggressive tactics to antagonize him. They believe that if the judge overreacts, it would strengthen their case for an appeal. Some advisors to Trump have even suggested that a “remand order” to put him in custody for repeatedly breaching the judge’s rulings could be advantageous legally and politically. Trump’s legal team has assured him that they would employ various legal strategies to prevent him from spending any time behind bars if he were remanded. There have also been discussions among Trump’s 2024 campaign staff about the potential fundraising boost they could receive if the judge attempts to jail him. The judge has already imposed a gag order on Trump and warned him about attacking his staff, but Trump’s attorneys continue to push boundaries. It remains uncertain how far the judge would go in punishing Trump, given his status as a former president and potential presidential candidate.
