Former President Donald Trump took to social media to express his frustration just hours before his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, testified in their New York bank fraud trial. The trial, initiated by New York Attorney General Letitia James, aims to prevent the Trump family from running businesses in New York and has already resulted in the Trump Organization losing its business certificates due to fraud committed by the trio.
Despite facing two gag orders and fines totaling $15,000, Trump chose Truth Social as the platform to vent his grievances. He launched attacks against Judge Arthur Engoron, the attorney general, and witnesses involved in the case. In a late-night post, Trump labeled James, who is a Black woman, as “racist” and referred to former Trump fixer Michael Cohen, who recently testified against him, as a “sleazebag lawyer.”
Trump’s primary concern seemed to be protecting his perceived net worth. He emphasized that the financial statements undervalued his assets and asserted that Mar-a-Lago alone was worth much more than the stated $18 million. He also claimed that all banks and insurance companies were paid in full, debunking any allegations of default. Trump lamented the lack of a victim in the case, except for himself.
Expressing his anger towards Judge Engoron, Trump pleaded for his children to be left alone and criticized the judge for being a disgrace to the legal profession. Later on, Trump expressed frustration over the prosecution’s mention of a “low ball offer” he made in 2014 to buy the Buffalo Bills. He dismissed the significance of the offer and accused the trial of being a “witch hunt” and “election interference.”
In a final post, Trump accused Judge Engoron of bias due to the gag order and absence of a jury, conveniently forgetting that these were decisions made by himself. He criticized the swiftness of the trial, comparing it to being “railroaded,” and claimed that the judicial system had deteriorated under Engoron’s watch.
As the trial continues, the Trump family faces a critical moment with their testimonies. The outcome of the case will have significant implications for their future business endeavors in New York.
