A woman in the UK has been accused of killing her boyfriend after running him over with her car following an argument at a birthday party. Alice Wood, 23, allegedly dragged Ryan Watson, 24, underneath her car for a 160-meter stretch outside their home in Rode Heath, Cheshire, on May 6 last year. After the incident, Wood stopped her car, knocked on a door, and asked the homeowner to call an ambulance, stating that she believed she had run over her boyfriend. When the police arrived, Wood was arrested and reportedly told an officer, “It’s fine, I deserve it.”
Witnesses at the party mentioned that Ms. Watson seemed to be enjoying herself, while Wood appeared distant. The party was held in Hanley for a member of the Headway brain injury charity, where Mr. Watson worked as a support worker. The couple left the party with Wood driving her boyfriend’s Fiat, but an argument ensued, leading Watson to get out of the car and kick it in anger. Wood then got behind the wheel of her own Fiesta and intentionally drove into him twice, carrying him under the car for over 150 meters.
Watson died from crush asphyxiation injuries and was discovered in a pool of blood with his leg protruding from under the car. The prosecutor, Andrew Ford KC, described the incident as a result of Wood losing her temper and using the car as a weapon during a drunken argument with her boyfriend.
Wood admitted to consuming two glasses of white wine, two rums, and a glass of champagne. She was found to have 61 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35. However, she denies the charge of murder. The trial is expected to last for three weeks at Chester Crown Court.
