Woman Files Lawsuit Against Restaurant for Serving Salad Containing Human Finger

A woman in Connecticut has taken legal action against the fast-casual chain Chopt after allegedly finding a piece of the manager’s finger in her salad, according to People magazine. Allison Cozzi, a resident of Greenwich, Connecticut, filed a lawsuit claiming that she purchased a salad from a Chopt location in Mount Kisco, New York on April 7, 2023. While eating the salad, Cozzi realized that she was chewing on a portion of a human finger that had been mixed into the salad.

The complaint states that a manager at the restaurant accidentally cut off a piece of their left pointer finger while chopping arugula. Despite seeking medical attention, the manager served the contaminated arugula to customers. The Westchester County Department of Health investigated the incident and fined the restaurant $900.

According to the lawsuit, Cozzi suffered various injuries as a result of consuming the contaminated salad, including shock, panic attacks, migraines, cognitive impairment, nausea, dizziness, and neck and shoulder pain. The lawsuit does not disclose the specific amount of monetary damages sought, as required by New York Law. Cozzi’s attorney, Reibman, stated that the failure to properly supervise the preparation and service of food is a clear deviation from safe practices and warrants significant compensation.

The incident has caused immense stress and anxiety for Cozzi, who hopes to be appropriately compensated for the harm she has endured.
