Woman shot in Chandler shopping center parking lot for noncompliance, according to police

Chandler Police in Arizona are currently investigating a shooting involving an officer that occurred on the night of November 17th. The incident took place at a shopping center located near 54th Street and Ray Road, just across Interstate 10 from Phoenix’s Ahwatukee area. SkyFOX captured footage earlier in the evening showing a significant police presence at the shopping center, which resulted in the closure of the stores.

According to Detective Eva Zermeno of the Chandler Police, the incident began around 6:00 p.m. when officers responded to a welfare check in a parking lot. Upon arrival, they encountered an individual inside a vehicle who was armed with a gun. Despite the officer’s commands, the individual failed to comply and instead made a threatening move towards the officer with the weapon. As a result, the officer fired two shots, striking the suspect in the upper chest, as stated by Sgt. Emma Huenneke.

The suspect has been identified as 35-year-old Renata Eldred. Following the shooting, she was taken into custody, and medical aid was provided. Fortunately, the officer involved was unharmed. Authorities have confirmed that there is no longer any danger to the public.

Detective Zermeno emphasized that although situations like these can be chaotic, Chandler’s officers are well-trained to handle them. They establish a perimeter, secure the crime scene to preserve evidence, and then proceed with their investigation. Following her release from the hospital, Eldred was booked into Maricopa County Jail on charges of Disorderly Conduct and Aggravated Assault, according to Sgt. Huenneke.
