Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, PK Mishra, visited the site in Uttarakhand where 41 labourers have been trapped in a tunnel for 16 days. He assured the rescue teams of full support from the Union government and spoke to the trapped workers and their families, promising their safe rescue. After abandoning horizontal drilling in favor of manual drilling, rescue teams are exploring other options to reach the trapped workers. Mishra observed the vertical drilling being carried out by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and Satlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited, as well as the progress on the perpendicular tunnel. He communicated with the trapped workers and their families, offering reassurance and optimism. Mishra urged the agencies to prioritize safety and conduct the rescue operation swiftly, while ensuring a timely supply of food and other necessities. He emphasized the need for continuous health monitoring and mental health counseling for the trapped workers. Mishra commended the hard work of all the ground staff and agencies involved in the rescue operation. Three teams have started manual drilling at the site, making progress beyond the point where the auger machine had stopped.
