Yuzvendra Chahal, who was not selected for India’s Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign, has also been left out of the team’s 5-match T20I series against Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to rest most of the senior players and named a young squad for the series, with Suryakumar Yadav leading the team. Fans were hoping to see the return of players like Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Sanju Samson for the bilateral series, but none of them made it to the roster.
Chahal took to social media after the squad announcement and posted a cryptic message with just a smiley emoticon. Despite the ups and downs in his career, Chahal is not letting the situation affect his mental state. In a recent interview, he mentioned that he is used to such situations now.
Chahal said, “I understand that only fifteen players can be a part of the World Cup squad. I do feel a little disappointed, but my motto in life is to move on. It’s been three World Cups, and I’m used to it. That’s why I came here to play cricket at Kent because I want to play somewhere, somehow.”
For the 5-match T20I series against Australia, the BCCI selected some Indian Premier League stars such as Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma, and Shivam Dube. The squad includes Suryakumar Yadav as captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad as vice-captain, Ishan Kishan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma as the wicketkeeper, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shivam Dubey, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, and Mukesh Kumar.
Shreyas Iyer will join the squad as vice-captain for the last two T20Is.
