The White House National Security Council spokesperson, John Kirby, emphasized on Friday that the United States is continuously enhancing its strategic partnership with India. He also stated that the US “takes this very seriously” in reference to the indictment made by the US Department of Justice against an Indian individual involved in an alleged foiled murder plot.

During a press briefing, Kirby expressed, “India remains a strategic partner, and we are committed to improving and strengthening that strategic partnership with India.”

Regarding the US Justice Department’s indictment of an Indian national in an alleged foiled assassination plot in the US, Kirby added, “At the same time, we take this very seriously. These allegations and this investigation, we take very seriously.”

He further acknowledged India’s seriousness in dealing with the matter by mentioning their own efforts to investigate it. Kirby emphasized, “We have been clear that we want to see anybody responsible for these alleged crimes to be held properly accountable…”

The US Department of Justice revealed an indictment against an Indian individual for their alleged involvement in a thwarted plot to assassinate a leader of the Sikh Separatist Movement based in the US and a New York citizen.

According to the US Justice Department, Gupta, an associate of CC-1, has been implicated in international narcotics and weapons trafficking in his communications with CC-1. The indictment states that CC-1 directed the assassination plot from India.

Furthermore, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed concern over the case filed against an individual in a US court, linking them to an Indian official, stating that it contradicts government policy.

MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi remarked, “We cannot provide any further information on such security matters. The case against an individual filed in a US court, allegedly linking them to an Indian official, is a matter of concern. We have stated and let me reiterate that this is contrary to government policy.”

Bagchi added, “The association between organized crime, trafficking, gun running, and extremists on an international level is a serious issue that law enforcement agencies and organizations must consider. For this reason, a high-level committee has been formed, and we will be guided by its findings.”
