AAP MP Raghav Chadha’s Suspension from Rajya Sabha Overturned After 115 Days

The suspension of Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha from the Rajya Sabha has been lifted after 115 days. This decision came on the first day of Parliament’s Winter Session, following a motion put forth by BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao. Mr. Chadha was suspended on August 11 for a “breach of privilege” after allegedly proposing the names of four MPs without their consent to be part of a panel studying the controversial Delhi services ordinance. This ordinance grants the central government control over bureaucrats in the national capital.

In a video statement shared by news agency ANI, Mr. Chadha expressed his gratitude to the Supreme Court and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar for their involvement in getting his suspension revoked. He had previously approached the Supreme Court to challenge his suspension, and they took cognizance of his case.

The lifting of the suspension marks the end of a 115-day period during which Mr. Chadha was unable to fulfill his duties as a member of the Rajya Sabha. With his suspension now revoked, he can resume his responsibilities and participate in the proceedings of the upper house of Parliament.

It is worth noting that the suspension and subsequent revocation highlight the tensions and disagreements between political parties in India’s parliamentary system. The incident also serves as a reminder of the importance of following proper procedures and protocols within the legislature.
