A man from Texas has been sentenced to life in prison for shooting his neighbor in front of their apartment. Edward Murray, 57, was also ordered to pay a $10,000 fine in connection to the death of Antonio Robinson in September 2020. Murray admitted in court that he had been drinking vodka before the incident and expressed remorse for his actions, stating that he was sorry for the family and children affected. The sentencing comes three years after Murray shot Robinson, a Black man, with his hammerless revolver. Robinson lived in the apartment across from Murray with his girlfriend and three children. The children often played with their toys on the concrete sidewalk outside both units, which angered Murray. On the day of the shooting, Murray kicked a ball belonging to the children and then retrieved his firearm from inside his home. He fired three shots at Robinson without provocation, and after the shooting, he pointed his gun at the victim’s girlfriend before leaving the scene. Robinson was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead. Murray was arrested a few hours later and charged with murder. Robinson’s girlfriend, Ashley Lacy, believed the shooting was a hate crime, as Murray had a habit of using racial slurs against the family. Lacy expressed her devastation over her children losing their father as a result of the incident.
