A British tourist has been taken into custody after brutally stabbing his 26-year-old wife multiple times with a screwdriver in their hotel room in Turkey. The woman’s lifeless body was discovered by hotel staff in Fatih Mevlanakapı district around 12:30 local time on Tuesday, according to Metro.
Staff members became alarmed when they heard disturbing noises coming from the couple’s room and upon investigation, found the victim lying in a pool of blood. Medical personnel and law enforcement arrived at the scene and confirmed the woman’s death. Upon examination, it was determined that she had sustained fatal wounds from a screwdriver, including lacerations on her throat and body.
Turkish authorities quickly launched an investigation and apprehended the 28-year-old husband as he attempted to flee the hotel while wearing a bloodied T-shirt. A video circulating in Turkish media depicts the suspect being escorted by two officers, handcuffed, and with his head lowered as he is led into a police station.
During police questioning, the husband admitted to committing the heinous murder and disclosed the location where he had discarded the murder weapon. The weapon, a screwdriver, was subsequently found in a search after the suspect claimed to have disposed of it in a toilet. He is currently in custody facing charges of murder.
Further interrogation took place at the Homicide Bureau in Turkey, where the husband claimed that his wife had given him drugs on the day of the incident, leading to an argument. However, no drugs were discovered on either individual or in their hotel room. In his statement, the suspect also admitted to using medication for psychological issues and confessed to fleeing the scene after concealing the evidence.
It is worth noting that the couple had traveled from England to Istanbul on November 11 and had checked into their hotel on November 14, where the tragic event unfolded.
The investigation into this gruesome incident is ongoing.
