In a recent statement, former President Donald Trump criticized Kim Kardashian, calling her “the world’s most overrated celebrity.” Trump’s comments were in response to claims made in ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl’s book, “Tired of Winning.” According to the book, Kardashian allegedly told Trump that she would use her influence to bring football stars to the White House if he commuted the sentences of certain prisoners.
Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to refute the book’s claims. He expressed disbelief at the idea of Kardashian being the person he would turn to for assistance in recruiting football players. Additionally, Trump took a swipe at Kardashian’s ex-husband, Kanye West, praising him while implying that Kardashian had supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
The encounter between Kardashian and Trump dates back to 2018 when she met with him at the White House to discuss prison reform and advocate for the commutation of Alice Marie Johnson’s life sentence. Trump tweeted about their “great meeting” and subsequently granted clemency to Johnson. However, according to Karl’s book, Kardashian went on to request further commutations from Trump.
Karl’s book alleges that Trump proposed a quid pro quo arrangement, suggesting that he would grant the commutations if Kardashian used her connections to bring football stars to the White House. Trump’s claims of success in this regard are disputed, as the Philadelphia Eagles, 2018 Super Bowl champions, were disinvited from the traditional White House visit due to players’ anticipated absence. Trump had clashed with various sports teams during his presidency, particularly over the issue of national anthem protests and racial injustice. He also revoked an invitation to the Golden State Warriors, the 2017 NBA champions.
Despite Trump’s criticism, Kardashian’s efforts in advocating for criminal justice reform have been widely recognized. Her meeting with Trump in 2018 brought attention to the issue and played a role in securing clemency for Alice Marie Johnson.
