Professional footballer, Tom Lockyer, who is also the captain of Luton Town, has not given up on his career despite experiencing a serious health scare two months ago. During a Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth, Lockyer suffered a cardiac arrest. However, the 29-year-old has his sights set on making a comeback in the future.
He shared his aspirations by saying, “If there’s a chance I could play again, I would love it.” Lockyer is eager to return to the game he loves, but he is adamant about not taking unnecessary risks.
Tom Lockyer is very aware that he should not take any unnecessary risks that could further endanger his life. He stated, “I will not do anything against the advice of the doctors. It is far too early to set a time frame or make a decision.” His statement shows his commitment to his health, especially now that his girlfriend is seven months pregnant. His family is his current priority.
The Wales international reflected on his health scare, saying, “I was really lucky that it happened where it happened.” The day of the incident was a normal one for him, with no signs of anything amiss. He said, “It was a normal day, which is perhaps the most disturbing thing about it. I tried to find answers, but I was fine that day.”
Heart surgery a year ago
The cardiac arrest in the Premier League match was not the first for Lockyer. He had a similar incident in May last year, after which he underwent heart surgery. He managed to return to play after his surgery, but after his recent cardiac arrest, he had a defibrillator implanted.
Despite these challenges, Lockyer remains optimistic. He admitted, “I can’t deny it’s been a tough few months. But I’m fine.” He went on to express his gratitude for his life, saying, “I am incredibly grateful to be alive.”
